Midsummer Momentum

We’re halfway through summer, and this feels like a good moment to pause and ask yourself something simple: have you been experiencing the summer you actually want? Not the one that looks good online. Not the one that feels packed with pressure to do the absolute most. Just the one that feels good to you.
A little while ago, we explored this idea in real time at Soft Life in the Park, our wellness collaboration with Black Girls Gather. We started the day with movement and Zumba, then slowed things down with a creative reflection activity where we wrote postcards to our future summer selves.
The whole purpose was to get honest about the kind of summer we want to experience and the version of ourselves we want to step into while we’re living it. We reflected, shared with each other, and made space to really picture what we want the rest of the season to feel like.
If you need your own little midsummer reset, here’s a simple place to start. Set a timer for five minutes and reflect on these questions:
What 3 words describe the exact energy you want to feel by August?
What does your ideal summer day look like from start to finish?
What core memories do you want to look back on this time next month?
That’s it. No pressure. Just a few honest questions to help you notice whether the summer you’ve been living matches the one you’ve been hoping for.
And if it doesn’t, there’s still time.
Summer isn’t over. You can still make room for softness, fun, movement, rest, connection, and the little moments you want to remember. Sometimes the shift starts with simply getting clear on what you want.
