Makers & Mixers

An annual Father’s Day celebration, created to honour fatherhood and male mentorship through craftsmanship, creativity, and meaningful connection.

Makers & Mixers is Mauya’s annual Father’s Day celebration, created to honour fatherhood and male mentorship through craftsmanship, creativity, and meaningful connection. Hosted in partnership with Maxwell’s Plum, Suntory Whisky, and Mona Agada of Dear Friend Bar in Dartmouth, the event brings together community members in a vibrant, outdoor setting designed to be both relaxed and engaging.

The experience blends guided whiskey tasting, mocktail crafting, live music, and interactive art-making to create a multidimensional celebration. By integrating hands-on learning with social connection, Makers & Mixers offers participants a thoughtful alternative to traditional Father’s Day programming: one that centers presence, skill-building, and shared memory-making.

The event was structured around several core objectives: to celebrate Father’s Day in a meaningful and creative setting; to create opportunities for connection between fathers, families, and friends; to introduce attendees to the craftsmanship behind whiskey tasting and mixology; and to provide an interactive artistic component that adds a personal, lasting element to the experience.

Programming includes a guided premium whiskey tasting session featuring Suntory, where participants learn about flavor profiles and tasting techniques. A professionally led mocktail-making class invites guests to craft and enjoy a signature cocktail or mocktail, reinforcing both skill development and social engagement. A live caricature art station offered personalized portraits, which attendees could further customize with watercolours or crayons, creating tangible keepsakes. Throughout the event, a live DJ curated an upbeat atmosphere that encouraged celebration and connection.

Makers & Mixers also demonstrated the strength of cross-sector partnership. By collaborating with local hospitality leaders and national brands, Mauya successfully activated a community-centered event that blended arts, culture, and social engagement while expanding its network of aligned partners.

From an impact perspective, participants described the experience as joyful, engaging, and memorable. The event strengthened intergenerational connection, highlighted positive representations of fatherhood and male mentorship, and reinforced the importance of creating intentional spaces where men and their families can gather in celebration.
